Range Report: Police trade in S&W M&P9 9mm

9mm

Police trade in S&W M&P9 9mm with 3 – 17 rnd magazines and Night Sights from Buds Guns Shop.

Ok, so let me start off by saying that according to my family I have a hard core firearm addiction. I personally, like to think of it as a personal calling. Much like JC who loves us all, I love all guns, even the lowliest Jenningins among us, they all hold a special place in my heart.

I also like a good deal. Too be clear, I have had “good deals” end up bad, but that’s part of the challenge. So as I was scouring one of my favorite sites for used firearms,  I came across the S&W 9mm police trade in. the package comes with 3-17 round mags and not guaranteed night sites. I purchased an M&P .45 trade in from a police dept in NH, and have been quite happy with it. So I had an idea of what I was getting.

The process is really easy for purchasing a firearm from Buds, find what you like, look up an FFL locally who will do the transfer, pay for the weapon. Buds sends it to your FFL very quickly, FFL gives you a shout when it’s in, show up and pay transfer fee and background, and you have a new to you, firearm.

After receiving the weapon, I inspected it. It had very slight surface rust on the slide behind the ejection port. It was very dirty, as if it was fired a couple times a year and just re-holstered.  It came with the 3 mags, had all the grip sizes, and the night sites were dim but still have life.

At the 9 mm targetrange I was very pleased, I used white box 100 round Winchester FMJ from WalMart. I put the rounds down range at 20 yards. I had no jams, and the weapon appeared to be spot on.

In the end, I got a great handgun for my 18 year old daughter to carry, and I didn’t break the bank. I am a fan of Buds Gun shop, but that is not the only place I look at for used firearms.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to give me a shout.

Good Luck!

I’ve got the Smith & Wesson MP9 Shield, MP9 C, and MP .380 Bodyguard pistols. I also have the MP 15-22 rifle. The Military & Police line from Smith & Wesson is solid.

I like the fact you are looking at police trade in weapons! There are so many horror stories out there about these! I feel that a good follow up would be the detailed inspection process, cleaning, & lubrication prior to first trigger pull! Most used weapons I have come across are either over or under lubed. Never has one been just right. Because of alot of the negative stories I believe quite a few people pass on great weapons!

      Richard,
Thank you for your input! This weapon was under lubed. It was dirty, but it has been one of the best trade in weapons I have come across!
